The next step to learning astrology is, in my opinion, the most fun. The moon sign.
The sun will reveal a brighter, forced part of yourself, but the moon comes naturally. Just like the waves of an ocean, the moon sways our emotions and feelings. The sign your moon is in is also reflective of the you that you were as a child: shy and awkward or bright and talkative? The moon reveals all. Even when the sun does not shine on it, it still lingers there, hiding your secrets but still with a promise that what has been lost will be found.
So now; without further adu, my take on what your moon sign means for you. Heads up: this is gonna be a long one. I have spent YEARS taking note of someone’s birthday (famous people and close friends alike), specifically looking at the moon sign for them.
Moon in Aries
When the moon is in Aries, the emotions are rash, passionate, and childish. This “childish” doesn’t always act as a flaw, as it can sometimes be refreshing with someone who views things innocently and honestly. Despite being inattentive at times, these natives are perceptive to their emotional environments and “feel” things out rather directly. If something is bothering them, they are not shy at all when bringing it up. In fact, these individuals are rather good at talking about their feelings. The only time they falter at being direct is when they feel they’re being threatened emotionally in some way, and even then, subconscious body language is bound to give them away. Moon in Aries can be quite infuriating sometimes, but sometimes the truth they are trying to point out is where the real hurt comes from. These are amazing friends for keeping you in line and also complimenting you on your achievements.
Moon in Taurus
The moon in Taurus is stubborn, unmoving, and powerful. These natives can take a tremendous amount of emotional stress and pressure before they break. Unlike the comparatively easy-going Aries, the moon in Taurus thinks long and hard before expressing their feelings to others. When they finally do, they will stubbornly uphold everything they have and haven’t said. They are also very traditional, and may have conflicting thoughts regarding gender, for example, a born man may have trouble expressing feminine thoughts and vice versa for a born woman. These people also have a strong sense of loyalty. There are very few things which would convince them to betray their companions trust, especially in emotional matters.
Moon in Gemini
The nitty gritty of this sign is hard to pin down. Their emotions flow from one place to the next in a matter of seconds, yet not necessarily like water, the flow is more remiscent of the wind. Unlike Arian moons, these natives lack a hard substance in their emotions. Not to say that they aren’t there, because they certainly are, but they don’t have dramatic, passionate urges. In fact, they’re modes of handling emotion would be to approach it logically. Rarely will these individuals get caught up in the heat of a moment for anything other than sheer curiosity. These natives have a yearning to understand the human psyche and flow of emotion, but when it comes to their own, they have few dramatic instances.
Moon in Cancer
The moon in cancer is quite different from Gemini. It is extremely loyal, shy, and very much tangible. Their energy is like bounds of water held behind a dam. The emotions are not easily shared with others, and when it is, they need to have complete trust and honesty from the other person. Even those who are more open keep their deepest thoughts and feelings in some sort of containment. These individuals are also the first in this list to be the most intuitive. The water signs are much more privy to having an empathetic niche about them. For cancer, however, this empathy is more geared for their loved ones. For anyone else, the cancer native has their emotional curtains closed. In other words, they more easily handle blocking out unwanted energy than Pisces, but not as well as Scorpio.
Moon in Leo
The moon in Leo is dramatic, boisterous, and self-orientated. No matter how self-absorbed these natives may seem sometimes, they are perhaps one of the most self-aware of their emotions. They see their own energy clearly. Sometimes, this supposed self-absorption is just them trying to relate to the emotions of others. This self-awareness oft can turn into problems of self-consciousness. After all, seeing their flaws is just as easy, if not more, as seeing their best features. Leo doesn’t do well in the moon; it wants to shine, but only at the mercy of the sun. A Leo moon with a critical sun, like a Capricorn sun, is bound to have plenty of blockages of energy, especially around their sense of self. Nonetheless, the sunshine is STILL there, that fun and cool person, they just need to feel emotionally safe.
Moon in Virgo
The moon in Virgo is very particular, critical, and intelligent. For the Virgo moon native, their emotions may appear to them as different pieces of a puzzle they have yet to finish, or something that needs to be logically understood. While mutable like Gemini, the Virgo has more deep and sensual emotions. But similar to Leo, the only person the Virgo feels they have to prove themselves to is themselves. They fight their negative emotions more than others, and their perceptive nature lets them see every single flaw. The challenge for this native is to accept their imperfections, and find peace with the craziness of the world and their own psyche. This moon is less focused on the emotional nature of the world and more so with the emotional nature of themselves and those closest to them.
Moon in Libra
The moon in libra is flighty, sociable, and naturally shying away from conflict. The lunar Libran will find themselves fighting many emotions in the name of keeping the peace, even if it means their own unhappiness with the matter. Sometimes, they will even shy away from the conflict in their own mind, preferring to focus on more positive and “pretty” emotions rather than dealing with more darker matters. These natives are still intelligent and have an eye for beauty, but this part of them is subject to the scrutiny of their sun. This may make them more or less likeable. The biggest challenge for the moon in libra is find a way to express their true feelings without filtering or putting on a facade.
Moon in Scorpio
It is not clear whether Scorpio does or doesn’t thrive in the moon. Here, it is secretive, passionate, and intense. The natives have deep wells of emotions inside them, and they are only unleashed once in a blue moon. This sign is one of the most distrustful, with emotions this strong and powerful, those who are smart take care not to let them flow regularly all the time. This moon does not flow well with a sun that is boisterous and expressive, like a fire sign, because it draws upon a well that has long since been holed up. Lunar scorpios are transformative in nature. Their energy has the power to make or ruin someone else’s day. These are the people who, when angry, leave a scalding energy everywhere they walk. But when you befriend them, it can be very rewarding.
Moon in Sagittarius
The moon in Sagittarius is light-hearted, fleeting, and intelligent. These natives are one of the most adept at handling their feelings. Although they do have some yearning to make logic and sense of their emotions, their exploration of the mind is more so for the sake of curiosity than scrutiny. They have a need to have some sort of self-understanding and usually work well with others because their emotions just kind of “make sense” to them naturally. The Sagittarius moon is also somewhat optimistic when it comes to their emotions. They can easily approach their darker emotions with a sense of humor and live comfortably with their secrets. Their biggest challenge is probably this need for self-exploration, which can lead them to a sort of restlessness. They may feel trapped if circumstances do not allow for emotional freedom and exploration that they desire.
Moon in Capricorn
The moon in Capricorn is critical, practical, and punctual. These individuals experience emotion with a sense of apprehensiveness, because unlike other areas of life, emotions are not so easy to categorize and explain. Just like the Virgo moon, the lunar Capricorn can have a hard time because of their own critical nature. Self-consciousness is not unheard of with these individuals, and they may also have a hard time sharing and exploring their emotions. On the other hand, they are unlikely to have passionate and quickly passing emotions. While not as slow to anger as a Taurus, they also do take some time to break down because of their own determination to stay sane. As companions, the lunar Capricorn is also emotionally dependable and welcomes the energy of a loved one. They are the ultimate caregiver.
Moon in Aquarius
The moon in Aquarius is also another difficult one to pin down. In my experience, the lunar Aquarian has experienced something in their childhood that has stripped them of their ability to explore and express their own feelings. Emotion is stale and dry in the fixed wind sign, and while they do indeed have real and valid emotions, they are buried and encrypted deep within the logical and impersonal heart of the Aquarius. As a lunar Pisces, the lunar Aquarians I’ve been friends with have never failed to perplex me. At the end of the day it’s very difficult to find out what they really feel because that is hard to pinpoint for themselves. They might view their own feelings as “different” and quirky from those of others out of sheer will to not confront their feelings.
Moon in Pisces
The moon in Pisces is easily swayed, empathetic, and psychic. While the other signs are rather adept at hiding emotions if they want to, a lunar Pisces practically drips with emotions at all points. There are few walls to contain their feelings and it flows continuously from all points. Even a lunar Pisces who is rather quiet about their personal feelings will express subconscious body language that will give them away. Other moons knows they can easily trust or distrust this person from the moment they meet them. This sign is also bound to have problems creating boundaries. With their heart continuously on their sleeve, there is not a single one without a single story that has taught them to be more careful with their relationships and what they allow.
Hope you guys enjoyed! All of these positions can be found on cafeastrology.com for free, along with their own interpretations.
I had an old posts on aspects that quite honestly I hate now that I look back on it, so I’m making a new one.
Firstly, aspects are made when two planets or points are a certain amount of degrees away from each other. As in, the aspect itself is not a physical thing, but a measurement of an angle between planets that shows a dynamic between them. Aspects don’t have to be exact and rarely they are, they can actually be a few degrees off which is called an orb. Chart calculators such as those on astro.com automatically have their aspect orb set up to 10˚ but you can change the settings to be exact or even up to 15˚. But most astrologers use no more than 10˚ and often times they will use a maximum orb lower than that. The smaller the orb, the stronger the aspect. But that’s not the only way you can tell how strong an aspect is. Aspects are also categorized into separating and applying aspects. Separating aspects in the natal chart are aspects that have been exact just before you were born, and applying aspects are ones that became exact after you were born. It is extremely rare that someone would be born with an aspect completely exact (as in 0˚00′). And of course with applying and separating aspects, the faster moving planet is the deciding factor as to if it’s applying or separating, also make sure to check if this planet is in retrograde to make sure of the status of this aspect. Applying aspects are generally considered to be stronger than separating aspects in the natal chart. Especially because they can be exact in your progressed chart.
Of course there are many kind of aspects, some stronger than others. The stronger aspects are major aspects, they include the conjunction, opposition, trine, and square. Arguably conjunctions are the strongest and oppositions are a close second, although trines and squares are still both quite strong in the chart.
So, starting with conjunctions these aspects are exact when two planets are 0˚ away from each other. This aspect helps join or fuse the qualities of the two planets or points together. They make a bond between the two planets. Conjunctions are generally thought of as a neutral aspect, and it can either have a more disharmonious or harmonious effect on someone depending on a) what planets are involved and b) how much the person has developed the aspect. Conjunctions are widely regarded as the strongest aspect and thus more astrologers are likely to use a larger orb with it. If your only conjunctions have a really wide orb then you may find that oppositions feel stronger to you.
On that note, oppositions, while being considered a strong aspect alongside conjunctions are quite different that the former aspect. Instead of bonding the two planetary energies, this aspect puts them against each other. There is a push and pull between them but they’re still strongly connected. Oppositions are just that, two planets opposite each other in the chart as in it is exact with two planets 180˚ away from one another. This aspect is generally considered disharmonious, and one of the most disharmonious aspects. But with enough development of an opposition it is possibly to use this push and pull to get the planetary energies to work together.
Next, there are trines. Trines are formed when two planets are 120˚ away from each other. Not as strong as the conjunction or opposition but still quite strong. These two planet’s energies work together to enrich each other. This aspect can been seen as some sort of “cosmic gift” placed in the chart. A lot of trines can indicate a lot of positive karma. This aspect is usually easy and helpful for someone without needing any development, but can also cause apathy and laziness in a person if it has too much presence because of it’s calm nature. But overall it is seen as a very harmonious aspect, and arguably the most harmonious aspect.
Finally, the last of the major aspects is the square. And as each angle in a square is 90˚, this aspect is exact when two planets are 90˚ away from each other. This has about the same strength as a trine. This aspect has a lot of tension and is often very disharmonious, and can cause conflict due to mutually exclusive desires and needs from the uncooperative planets. These as[pects can cause a lot of pressure but it can be worked with and at it’s best it can be very motivational for a person and can help with growth. A lot of squares can indicate having a lot of negative karma.
Besides the major aspects, there are also minor aspects. But before I get to those there are two aspects which astrologers disagree on if they are major or minor. Thus I think of them in their own in-between category. These two aspects are the sextile and the quincunx or inconjunct.
The sextile is when two planets are 60˚ away form each other. This is a very harmonious aspect and the two planets help to inspire each other. This aspect creates motivation and excitement. But it’s also a halved and thus weaker version of a trine, as in this gift is less present than that of the trine. And it does contain a slight bit of square-like tension which can especially be seen in the aspect pattern of a yod (will be discussed later). This aspect may aslo show some area of talent in a person’s life, but they may miss some opportunities with this due to lack of pressure to.
Then there is the quincunx, also known as the inconjunct. This aspect if exact when two points are 150˚ away from each other. This aspect is generally seen as neutral. This is because it is an aspect that holds a lot of potential but is hard to release. It is difficult to release since the two planets are often in signs of both differing and inharmonious elements and modalities which makes this potential hard to adjust to. This difficulty to adjust to can cause some tension, and there is also no promise that the potential of this aspect will be tapped into, but it can be very rewarding if it is.
Now, for the minor aspects. These aspects generally don’t stand alone to show something in the natal chart but rather stand to support something that is already shown otherwise in the natal chart and are thus very useful to interpreting a chart accurately. But these aspects generally include a much smaller orb and often must be exact or less than a 1˚ or 2˚ orb in my opinion. Minor aspects include quintile, bi-quintile, semi-sextile, semi-square, sesqui-square, semi-quintile, nonile, septile, and to even less importance than those semi-octile, squile, squine. tri-decile, and quindecile.
Quintiles are a harmonious aspect with an angle of 72˚. Quintiles can help indicate talent in the chart, as well as aspiration and ambition in certain areas. These often assist in showing talents already seen in the chart but these help pick out the talents that will be most worked at, and often these are more focused on artistic talents.
Bi-quintiles are also harmonious aspects such as a quintile and as the name states they are double the angle of a quintile so 144˚. These aspects mostly help to serve quintiles, but with even more of a focus on the arts. It can also help one become more aware of their quintiles.
Semi-sextiles are half of a sextile so 30˚ and is somewhat harmonious. It shows a potential that is hard to reach due to the complete difference in the signs of the two planets. This creates somewhat of a positive connection between two planets that otherwise would be difficult interacting with one another due to being in neighboring signs.
Semi-squares are just half of a square aka 45˚ and is seen as somewhat disharmonious. This aspect causes unapparent tension that can thus be hard to address and work on. This are tensions most people would rather ignore, maybe something you’d address momentarily but never reach a long-term solution for.
Sesqui-squares or otherwise known as sesquiquadrates are a square and a half so 135˚ and are somewhat disharmonious. Just like the square this causes conflicts and some tension, and possibly more apparent than the semi-square but even easier to suppress. This aspect if also very stubborn and indicates an issue that is very hard to work on.
Semi-quintiles or a decile is 1/10 of the circle of the natal chart as in a 36˚ angle. This is very similar to but much weaker than a quintile. But it also includes a bit of tension, although this is really hard to address both the talents and tension of this aspect and is most definitely just supporting something already shown in the chart.
Noniles or also known as noviles have a 40˚ angle. This aspect is somewhat harmonious and help make an idea, or make an already thought of idea in the natal chart a reality. It can also indicate a beginning of a new phase. One can barely notice this though and it requires a great deal of sensitivity and observation in order to.
Septiles have an angle of 51˚26′ and are a harmonious aspect. This can help show spirituality or religion in the chart. Many of these can help show what someone experiences and feels on a deeper level. It can also help show wisdom gained.
Semi-octiles are exact with an angle of 22.5˚ and is slightly harmonious. Not much else is known about this aspect and it has very little meaning in the horoscope.
Squiles have an angle of 75˚ and there isn’t much information on the specific of this aspect, but it is good to look at it in progressions to see if it seems to support anything else shown.
Squines have an angle of 105˚ and just like the Squile there is little to no information on it, but it is useful for progressions.
Tri-deciles are three times a decile as in 108˚ and is harmonious. It has a unique energies that complements any gifts shown in the chart. It symbolizes a divine motherly energy. And it can help show something that needs to be fulfilled.
Quindeciles have a 165˚ angle and are disharmonious. It can help support where in the chart one can become obsessive over something to the point of irrationality. It can show compulsivity and some sort of separation from reality.
Aspects can form aspect pattern. These have their own meaning and can be very important in the chart. Aspect patterns include a grand trine, grand cross, grand sextile, T-square, mystic rectangle, yod, and kite. Not everyone has an aspect pattern, and some are more common than other.
Grand trines are created when three planets are trine each other to form the shape of an equilateral triangle. This is a very harmonious aspect pattern and can increase the influence of the trines, as well as usually gives the person some sort of gift or talent. Nicknamed the “triangle of grace” quite appropriately. But, like the trine this aspect pattern can lead to some apathy or lack of motivation or care. This has a calming feeling to it but it’s talents may not be used if ignored due to lethargy.
Grand sextiles are formed when six planets are around the chart in sextile to one another which creates the shape of a hexagram. It is a very harmonious aspect pattern. This may also look like two grand trines upside down from each other. This is a rare aspect pattern and it strengthens the sextiles to make them more like a major aspect. Unlike a grand trine this pattern helps motivate and invited productivity.
T-squares are formed when two planets are opposite each other and square a third planet, this is a disharmonious aspect pattern. I’ve found this to be a very common aspect pattern, but many of them in one chart can indicate a lot of karma. The tension of the opposition in addition to the tension of the squares is all channeled through the squared planet. This is very intense and is nearly impossible to ignore. But T-squares, if worked with, can offer a lot of growth and help make you a stronger, better person.
A grand cross also called a grand square is created when four planets are square each other giving the shape of a square. Another way ot think of it is two T-squares forming a whole square. This can be disharmonious due to challenges and the stubborn nature it can cause. If these challenges are overcome, however, it can really help with stability. Often times these challenges may be triggered by transits.
Mystic rectangles are formed when two pairs planets form an opposition to each other and then each pair on each side also forms a sextile, creating the image of a rectangle. This is a harmonious aspect pattern and helps one figure out and deal with their oppositions. It helps the sextiles and trine work together to channel their harmonious energy through the oppositions.
Yods are formed when two planets are sextile each other and then both quincunx a third. This is a rare and disharmonious aspect pattern. It creates a desire to do something powerful or important (thus nicknames the “finger of god”) but it often doesn’t lead the person in the right direction to do so. This aspect pattern intensifies the quincunx and makes it act more like a major aspect. Yods can be thought of as channeling the worst of the sextile through the apex. This is a very stressful aspect to have and is very hard to ignore.
Finally, kites are formed when a grand trine has a fourth planet opposite one of the ends and sextile the other two. This is harmonious but like the grand trine can cause a lack of motivation. Although there is a great ease in the flow of energy between these planets. This aspect pattern helps encourage constructive ways of expressing the grand trine.
There are a few other things related to aspects that I might as well note…
Such as it being very favorable when a planet is conjunct the sun within 0′17˚ and it strengthens it, this is called cazimi. On the other hand a conjunction to the sun can be seen as combust if in the same sign and within 8° 30’ which can weaken it. Beyond combustion, yet within 17˚ of the sun is considered under the sun’s beams which still weakens a planet but not to the same extent as a combustion.
Aspects can occur outside of the signs they were suppose to, for example if a planet is near the end of one sign and another planet near the beginning of another they could form a trine but not in the same element. This is called dissociate aspect.
There are also parallels and contraparallels. This is working with the declinations of planets. Parallels are when two planets are of the same declination and the interpretation of this is considered similar to a conjunction, although probably not as strong. A contraparallel is when two planets have the same degrees of declination but are on opposite hemispheres. This is interpreted similarly to an opposition but is less potent in the chart.

The houses in astrology can have different meanings based on the type of chart or astrology practiced (natal astrology, horary astrology, electional astrology, etc.), but this will look at the meanings for NATAL charts. These meanings are also derived from traditional sources and may differ from what you’ve seen in modern interpretations.
A note on wording: the word “native” will be used a lot in my descriptions of the houses. The “native” refers to the subject of the natal chart. Other people mentioned in the descriptions (friends, relatives, etc.) are people in that position in the native’s life.
First House
The house most closely associated with the native. Their body, including physical appearance, vitality and mannerisms. Their soul, its motivations and objectives. Their personality, mentality, tastes and character traits.
Second House
The native’s financial matters, including their source of income, resources and assets. Movable possessions. The native’s job and/or livelihood. Giving to and receiving from others, as well as charity. Hopes for the future.
Third House
Siblings and relatives (aside from the parents), their condition and relationship with the native. Thought, intellect and communication. Divination, dreams, and religious matters. Short journeys and/or journeys by land.
Fourth House
The family of origin, especially in regards to the parents and the ancestral roots. Resources acquired through family inheritance. Immovable possessions such as houses or lands. The private life. Old age, death and funerals.
Fifth House
Creativity, along with all manner of playful activities and entertainment. Sex, pleasure and passion. Children, their condition and their relationship to the native.
Sixth House
The health of the native, particularly in the negative sense: injuries, sickness, diseases, suffering, weaknesses. Obligations and daily tasks/routines. People that work for the native. The native’s occupation/job. Pets, as traditionally connected to quadrupeds.
Seventh House
Relationships, including romantic relationships and business partnerships. The dynamics of the native’s relationships: how they relate to others, how they deal with confrontation, the type of partner they choose/attract. Marriage and sexual union. Known enemies.
Eighth House
Death and all matters relating to death and loss. Wills, legacies and inheritances. Feelings of angst, worry and fear. Obsessions. Occult matters. The partner’s money, resources and livelihood. Debt and taxes. Inactivity, weakness, squandering what is gained.
Ninth House
Knowledge, education and those things associated (books, universities, professors, etc.). Matters of faith and religion. Long journeys and/or journeys by sea. Foreign lands and foreigners. Dreams, visions, prophecies, stories. Astrology. The partner’s relatives.
Tenth House
Public life of the native, including their fame, social impact, reputation and rank in society. Their objectives in life, often including their career and their relationship to it. Figures of authority.
Eleventh House
Friends and allies - those who support and help the native. The relationship the native has with their friends, whether good or bad. Dreams and aspirations. Gifts from others.
Twelfth House
Isolation, including prisons and other enclosures. Acts of sabotage, envy and betrayal. Hidden enemies. Situations that limit the native: sadness, afflictions, loss. Travel that doesn’t go well, or banishment from the home country. What happens while in the womb.
There are about 1,000 of these posts on Tumblr, but I really enjoy talking about astrology so y'know what deal with it. Okay, so this post is essentially going over how I practice astrology (because my practice is different from the general norm), the glyphs, the elements/qualities/polarities, the planets, the signs, a birth chart/different types of charts (only a few because there are just so many), the houses of astrology, the different versions of astrology, etc. I’ll also be writing in-depth posts about all of this. I think a good place to start this post would be to list off some of my favorite resources (websites, books, etc.) that helped me when I first started, and I still refer back to until this day.
I’m starting off with how to draw up your chart. To do this, you will need your exact birth time and city, as well as your birthday (obviously). If you don’t know your birth time, you will not know your house placements, rising, or other important angles in your chart. Another warning about this is that since the moon can change signs so rapidly, there’s a chance that if you don’t know your exact birth time, you may not know your correct moon sign. The most common resource to draw up a birth chart is cafeastrology.com. It’s the site that I first used to draw up my chart. What’s nice about this website is that it makes you a table of all of your house/planetary placements, as well as aspects. It also gives you short descriptions of each. The downside is that the circular chart itself is well uhhhhhhhh ugly as fuck. I prefer to use astro.com and astrotheme.com these days. Astro.com gives you a wide variety of different charts to choose from, as well as different asteroids and fixed stars to add to your chart. Astrotheme.com is my personal quick go to because their chart is so aesthetically pleasing and quick and to the point. You can also look up celebrity charts on there too for fun. I use both websites interchangeably.
Now for some more resources. There are a plethora of different websites for astrology, although not all are accurate. Here’s a list of a few with really good information though:
1) Alwaysastrology.com
2) Cafeastrology.com
3) The astrology tag on Tumblr!! Some really good blogs (off the top of my head, of course, there are so many amazing ones!!) are @astrolocherry, @velastrology, and @ayyries.
4) Theplanetstoday.com (To see the transits of all the planets!)
5) Daff Moon (iOS and Android App, to see the moon cycle)
I’d also like to note that YouTube can be a great source of information!! I highly recommend Canary Quill Astrology, Hannah’s Elsewhere, and Alyssa Trahan (or Alyssa Sharpe).
Those are just a few websites and one app, but there are so many more. There are lots of books too. Here are a few of my favorites:
1) The Only Astrology Book You Will Ever Need by Joanna Martine Woolfolk
2) The Power of Mercury: Understanding Mercury Retrograde and Unlocking the Astrological Secrets of Communication by Leslie McGuirk
3) The Secret Language of Birthdays by Gary Goldschneider and Joost Elffers
4) Astrology For The Soul by Jan Spiller
5) The Astrology Bible by Judy Hall
Again, there’s way more, but for the sake of this post not being six million miles long, I cut it to five each. I can make a big masterpost of resources if you’d like. Now, moving on. I think the best place to start will be the different versions of astrology and how I personally practice.
The types of astrology that are the most commonly known about are Sidereal and Tropical. Sidereal is the one that got everyone in a shitshow of “debunking” astrology with Ophicius, without having any real knowledge that like…hey…there’s so many different types of astrology ya dumb idiot shut up. I’ll make a whole post about Sidereal astrology later on. The most commonly used form of astrology is Tropical. Draconic, Horary, Electional, Celtic, and Katarchic astrology are also different types, just to name a few out of the wide, wide variety. There’s also a variety of chart types. There’s a Solar Return chart, a transit chart, a Lunar Return chart, persona charts for all of the planets, synastry/compatibility charts, Draconic charts, and so so so many more!! I’ll make whole posts about all of them (with time ofc)! There are many different house systems used too, the most commonly used is Placidus, but there are so many more. From Koch to equal house to Porphyry’s to Regiomontanus, it’s too much to cover in just this post alone. I use Tropical astrology, and I alternate between Placidus and equal house.
The gist of each house:
1st house: Your ascendant and ego. How you present yourself to the world. Beginnings.
2nd house: Money, Possessions. Values. Daily routine and environment.
3rd house: Communication. Family and Neighbors. Community.
4th house: Your IC/Imum Coeli. Your roots. What you’re like when you’re alone. The deepest part of yourself. Your emotional foundation.
Moving on to the planets, I personally utilize the planets in different ways than most. I use the normal planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Pluto), as well as a few asteroids. Asteroid wise, I use Chiron and Ceres. I also throw in a few other ones when I wanna spice things up, but I mainly use those two. I also use Black Moon Lilith. I also do the rulerships and exaltations differently, but since that’s an addition that would make this post too long, I’m saving that for the next post. I also utilize the glyphs. Many of the glyphs are old alchemy symbols (ie: The elemental Mercury glyph is the glyph for Mercury). I’ll make a whole post about glyphs because I take the glyphs for the signs into account to when analyzing them.
The gist of the planets:
Sun: Vitality. Life. Ego. Creativity. Your basic personality. Expression.
Moon: Emotions. Mothers and Nurturing Figures. Intuition.
Mercury: Knowledge. Logic. Learning and teaching. Communication.
Pluto: Transformation. Regeneration. Alchemy. Life and Death. Obsessions. Crime. Taboos. Crisis and destruction.
Black Moon Lilith: Dark femininity. Kinks. Repressed rage or urges. Cryptic messages. Feminine sexuality. Temptation.
Here are all of the astrological glyphs:
THE SIGNS. Wooow this post is already so long!!!! Okay the signs. Now, this is where most people try to debunk astrology because “omg nooo u cant be only one sign u can’t fit a whole group of people into one group!1! fake!!11!” no no no shhh shhh shhhuT THE FUCK UP let me EDUCATE YOU. You have more than just your typical magazine horoscope Sun sign. When someone tells you “You’re a Virgo” simply based off of your birthday, they’re telling you what your Sun sign is. You also have a rising sign and a sign for all of the planets. The signs all have different elements, qualities, and polarities. No sign is like the other. There is no other Cardinal, Fire, Active sign than Aries. There is no other Mutable, Water, Passive sign than Pisces.
The elements are Fire, Earth, Air, and Water. The Fire signs are Aries, Leo and Sagittarius. The Earth signs are Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn. The Air signs are Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius. The Water signs are Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces. Generally, Fire signs are flamboyant as fuck, Earth signs are stubborn as fuck, Air signs are detached as fuck, and Water signs are sensitive as fuck.
The qualities are Cardinal, Fixed and Mutable. The Cardinal signs are Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn. The Fixed signs are Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius. The Mutable signs are Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces. Generally, the Cardinal signs are the fucking bosses, they run everything, they get everything going. The Fixed signs are the ones that run around like “FUCK AUTHORITY” and fight any bitch who stands in their way. The Mutable signs are just kinda…there? NOT TO SAY THEY AREN’T IMPORTANT BECAUSE THEY ARE but they’re the ones who are probably off somewhere else not giving a single fuck and probably getting high off their asses.
Finally, the polarities. Some see them as masculine and feminine, some see them as yin and yang, I personally see them as active and passive. The active signs are Aries, Gemini, Leo, Libra, Sagittarius, and Aquarius. The passive signs are Taurus, Cancer, Virgo, Scorpio, Capricorn, and Pisces.
Taurus: Stubborn. Pleasure seeking. Down to earth. Sensual. Lazy.
Gemini: Duality to your personality. Restless mind. Funny and witty. Outgoing.
Cancer: Sensitive. Tough to get to know. Whiny. Manipulative. Loyal. Mom friend.
Leo: Creative. Dominating. Egotistical. Faithful. Big advocates of PDA. Attention seeking.
Virgo: Critical. Analytical. Organized. Detached. Successful. Can lead others on. Serves others.
Libra: Diplomatic. Socialite. Indecisive. Nonconfrontational. People pleaser.
Scorpio: Domineering. Explores the depths of the unknown. Vindictive. Always leaves their mark, for good or for bad, on others. Loves making people tick.
Sagittarius: Constantly learning. Unfaithful. Tries to make the most out of life. Eternal optimist. Freedom seeking.
Capricorn: FUNNY AS FUCK. Has their shit together. Detached. Determined. Success-driven. Loyal. Straightforward
Aquarius: Humanitarian. Rebellious. Edgy little shits tbh always tryna be different. Brutally honest. Trendsetters.
Pisces: Creative. Intuitive. Always in another realm. Free spirits. Sensitive. Irresponsible.
Alright, that’s it until my next post where I talk about the planets, in general, more in-depth. After that, I’ll do the signs. Then I’ll cover each sign and planet individually. Hope y’all liked this <3
When a planet is aspected by the Sun, it becomes a fundamental feature of your identity. It is illuminated for all to see and indicates an area of natural talent.
☽ When a planet is aspected by the Moon, it is private, subjective, and affects your sense of security. It influences the way you care for others and how you were cared for as a child. The Moon gives this planet an aura of nostalgia and can be a source of comfort when seized by anxiety and fear.
☿ When a planet is aspected by Mercury, it becomes a keen interest, a field of study, something you intuitively learn and remember. It influences the content of your thoughts, what you like to talk about and your manner of communicating.
♀ When a planet is aspected by Venus, it is romanticised and beautified. It is a side of yourself you reveal when flirting and a common trait in the people you attract into your life. It affects your sense of style and personal ideal of beauty and pleasure.
♂ When a planet is aspected by Mars, it becomes a survival tactic, a cause worth fighting for, something you are magnetically drawn to. It influences your energy levels and how you go about pursuing your desires.
♃ When a planet is aspected by Jupiter, it is exaggerated, inflated and deified. It indicates the kind of god you seek, the questions you want answering, the value you will pursue to the end.
♄ When a planet is aspected by Saturn, it is refined and controlled. It influences how you are received in society and your means of exercising authority and self-discipline.
♅ When a planet is aspected by Uranus, it is electrified, becoming a channel through which the collective consciousness expresses in the individual. It becomes a source of genius intuition and colours your vision of an ideal future.
♆ When a planet is aspected by Neptune, it affects the content of your (day)dreams and becomes a means of escaping the mundane. Neptune softens and romanticises any planet it touches. It becomes a way of losing yourself either in wholeness or madness.
♇ When a planet is aspected by Pluto, it becomes a door to the subconscious realm. It can indicate the manner in which your life is dominated by some external power, or the key that grants access to the well of unconscious knowledge.
If you want to see your 1st house: Find a reflection and look into your eyes, look at the masks you hang on the back of your door. Reflect on the sense inside that feels wrapped around a tiny pulse, the one that has always been with you and never leaves, the one that responds to hearing your name out loud or validation of your presence. What is going on inside your mind? there is the chattering of thoughts, but who is the one listening?
If you want to see your 2nd house: Look at your bed and furniture, your clothes and decorations, your bank account and wish list, the book you are reading, cuisine you are enjoying. Listen to the sound of your voice, touch every soft curve and harsh angle in your body like you are reading a musical about yourself. Look at your art room and creations, your wine fridge, your garden and flowers, hold your gold, gemstones, or crystals. Look at the assets that reflect the quality of your hard work
If you want to see your 3rd house: Write a blog post or flick through your articles of interest, talk to your neighbour or message your sister. Look at your schoolbooks, look at the way you have arranged your immediate environment to make it stimulate and interact with you. Take a drive to your favourite cafe or the tram to your little hangout where you like to amuse yourself. Think of your first day of school, ask the first question that comes to your mind out loud
If you want to see your 4th house: Go to the physical place or place that your mind knows as home. See where the flow of your solitary fantasy takes you. Look at your parents and grandparents, your photo albums, old journals, and comforters you have kept hold of. Write down what you are feeling, read or start a dream journal. Imagine a golden umbilical cord that comes from inside your core and leads into space. Look at the personal touches you leave on every house you make a home. At the end of the day, what is it that truly matters? the 4th house reflects on these deeply conditioned values
If you want to see your 5th house: Lose yourself in your child’s imagination, look at your romantic partner, look at the source of your pride and accomplishments. Think of a day that was made to celebrate you like your birthday or wedding. Let spontaneity flow through you and write a song, poem, or grand story of your life and dream. Look at your dress to impress, the things you post on your blog, your make-up, your special charm, the items that keep you amused and entertained, your school and sports awards, your unfinished grand schemes. Play with your deck of cards, enjoy a wine under solar light, make a bet with yourself
If you want to see your 6th house: Look at your daily planner, make an appointment, look at your your medicine box. Look around your home at all the quirky innovations and constructs that make it more personally efficient. Look at your pet, look at your obvious or irregular patterns of order, the way you left your shoes at the door, and the way you left reminders for yourself. Do something intricate with your hands. Think of something that gives you butterflies, think of the new skills you have learned on the job, get your work prepared for the next day
If you want to see your 7th house: Look at your partner, your loved ones, your relationships, your first love, reflect on their great value and necessity, think of that mystical rare spark or cosmic crackle that romantic encounters can ignite, think of the sister that peeps out from inside you when these people are around. If Cupid could grant your wish, what would you envision your ideal relationship and partner to be? Look in the mirror and turn off the light. Play the opposite day game.
If you want to see your 8th house: Look at your inheritances, photographs of your ancestors, look at your intimate partner, and look at the resources you have grown together. Think about the time you confronted one of your greatest fears or survived something you didn’t think you could. Go to the place you hide things, unlock your top draw of concealed desire, open your confidential files, look at your tax return, imagine you were to go to sleep and never wake up. Reflect on the way that people would describe your energy or legacy after your spirit has gone home
If you want to see your 9th house: Look at your degree or certificates, look at your passport or desired travel destinations. If you could go anywhere or study anything what would it be? Look at your heavy textbooks and reading material, your holiday photos or blog, read your horoscope or mythology. Try to remember the first way you managed to think about or describe God. Reflect on an extraordinary experience, sense of joy, or oneness with nature and the world around you. Think of the one question you would ask the universe if it could give you a direct answer.
If you want to see your 10th house: Look at the personal success story and badges of honour you have collected for yourself, you may be looking at things like your academic credentials and awards, your children, your profession. Look at your online profiles, your resume, and your followers. Think of what you wanted to be when you grew up, and what you still want to be. Reflect on what the definition of success is to you. If you could give your 10 year old self a message or piece of advice, what would it be?
If you want to see your 11th house: Style your appearance like you would if you knew you were not going to be judged, labeled, or receive unwarranted attention. Reflect on the times when you have felt a life to be heaven on earth, or you have experienced an out of the ordinary position of consciousness. If you were to be accepting your dream on a stage, who would you thank for supporting you to get there? Look at your friends, your online groups, your devises around the home. Play with, or support your team. If you were a leader what would your one major political policy be?
If you want to see your 12th house: Hide under your blanket, lose yourself in a book, shut your eyes and go inside, read your private journals, realise the moment between sleep and awake. Listen to a song that is emotionally inspiring, hypnotising, or transporting. Meditate, pray, create or daydream. Turn your devices so you won’t be disturbed, soak your feet, take a swim or bath and submerge your ears, let your imagination run wild, observe how you feel and spend your time when nobody else is home
